A Brief History of APL

APL was founded in 1999 by our CEO, Stephen Woodburn. Stephen had been working as a paramedic in the Peace Region, where he witnessed many inefficiencies in the service-delivery model of the day and little compassion in the patient interactions. His entrepreneurial spirit took charge and with little hesitation and a lot of support from family and friends, he began Advanced Paramedic Ltd. in his hometown of Peace River, Alberta.

Stephen knew Peace River would be a great place to start an industrial ambulance division, and he had plans to position APL for an air ambulance division. In 2003, APL secured its first contract with Alberta Health Services. APL proudly continues to be the air ambulance provider for Peace River and has expanded to provide service for the communities of Grande Prairie, High Level and Fort Vermilion as well.

Among APL’s many strengths are the values the company was founded upon—Compassion, Community, Integrity, Professionalism and Innovation.

APL deals with each emergency and request as the situation requires, never losing sight of the “big picture.” We recruit professionals who believe and share in APL’s vision for superior patient care, innovation, community involvement and industry leadership. We are committed to improving the experience of each stakeholder in our success—from clients, to patients, to the loved ones of our patients. We continue to innovate and grow our equipment to suit what is best for the job and the patient, not what is most economical.

APL was founded with, and maintains, a passion for providing unparalleled quality of service while keeping our patient and their loved ones at the centre of our business.
